Consumers have been warned to be vigilant of debt counsellors who are
placing them under debt counselling without their knowledge or
consent.

The National Credit Regulator says in some instances, consumers are
contacted telephonically and offered assistance on debt consolidation
or reduction of interest or instalments on their accounts.

NCR complaints department manager Enica Mpete explains.

I'm not liking the way this interviewer asks questions. He needs to be more specific on exactly what he is asking. He's ask " What is the danger?" – The danger in what? In giving your personal details over the phone to a stranger oor do you mean going through debt review?

@primrosendlovu4159 says:

Finally. I get calls from Debt counselor’s everyday and the call centre agent does not understand what debt review is.

Domkoppe in SA think a Ct-Card is a pay rise !!!

I'm a victim of this

@sibusisomaseko1607 says:

They are very predatory. They had me but i paid my debt off. Never again. Its false advertising. They dont tell you the implications of going under review

@nirigovender5390 says:

Yes I had people who call

@user-ho5pw5km8c says:

I'm one of the victims as well

@BrianWilliams03 says:

I am one of the people received such calls multiple times ????????

They wanted to put me under debt review even when i didn't request for such… I told them i had never requested such and that must only be done if one has requested.

It seems those debt councilors agents earn based on how many people they have helped and now they are trying to do it in a wrong way by tricking people by putting them into debt review ????????

@OrnamentalHermitVisage says:

No credit and no credit history. I owe nothing and own nothing. When I was young i was mocked for not caring about money.

Seems to have paid off when I look around me

@FutBrix1096 says:

They tried to do that to me… They dont disclose who they really are.. They even have all your information, credit information… They make you validate that info, then act like they are offering you a loan a "Consolidation loan".. But then i realised this is "debt review"… due to my experience.. I when it was time to give consent.. On the 2nd call.. I said.. I dont want anything to do with them… My lawyer got their details from me and said I must immediately send an email to NCR.. He will pursue it further.

@Ummo2850 says:

They can open criminal case as it’s fraud to not have consent so they mislead. Go to police as well

@Ummo2850 says:

Lock the debt counseling persons up. It’s beyond legal their harassment
